Chunkbuild 5: CASTLE GATE | Castle theme (Minecraft 1.12)
Welcome to another episode of ChunkBuild, the series where we make small chunk sized but beautiful houses! In today's episode 5 we show off a chunk sized (16x16) Minecraft Castle Gate, or a Gatehouse.
The Gatehouse is the minecraft castle gate, it's the entrance proper to the castle itself. As such it is one of the most defended positions in the castle. In this case it's surrounded by two elongated towers and has a structure above binding them together. The defenses include two portculis, four towers, arrow slits and murder holes in the gate itself, and ramparts for bowmen.
This is our second build in the Chunkbuild Castle theme, and the shiny thing is that these three build will be modular, so you can add them together to build a whole castle out of them! :) There are markers on this structure for where the walls from the last episode will go.
This build is available to download as a structure block here:

To use this structure in your own world, download it and put it in the structures folder in your world save folder. Then give yourself a structure block (/give @p minecraft:structure_block), place it and set it to load, entering the file name as name.
Chunkbuild is a series where I will show three builds per theme, then go on to a new theme, ad infinitum. Each build fits in a Minecraft chunk, ergo Chunkbuild. The themes will vary tremendously, so if you don't like a style, just give it a week or so and then check back.
In these videos I show of the build, comment on the block palette; details of the builds and show you how to do elements that are hard to build or interesting.
The theme this time is Castle. First and foremost castles in Minecraft need a very good Minecraft Stone Wall Design! So for this we use smooth stone, stone brick (with cracked stone brick and mossy stone brick as variants) and a little bit of Dark Gray Concrete Powder! For support pillars we use Cobblestone and Andersite.
This minecraft castle gate is meant to be fairly historically accurate, so there are lots of defensive positions in the minecraft castle gate, including murderholes, arrow slits, balconies and so on. The innards are, like they would have been in a working minecraft castle gate, really crammed, with chains for the portculis, wheels and ladders.
