In the Hunt was released for arcades in 1993 -- it was ported to the PS1 on March 22, 1996. The game was developed and published by Irem (probably best known for the R-Type series and Metal Storm on NES), although the PS1 version was published by THQ.

This is a really interesting early PS1 release. It was released first as a long box, then later as a jewel case version -- so they must have printed it at least a few times. The jewel case version is generally a little more rare, but both versions are tough to find.

This is a pretty neat side-scrolling shooter that plays a bit more like Metal Slug than it does a game like Gradius. Although the game itself is pretty fun, it has two fatal flaws -- there is far too much happening on the screen to be able to hone in on what can harm your sub, and, your sub moves too slowly.

Visually, it looks great, but as someone playing the game, having so much happening on-screen in a shooter game is less than ideal. The reason a game like Gradius (or R-Type) generally works is there isn't a lot in the background -- usually they are simple backgrounds (or just the blackness of space). This game isn't worth the price of admission, but is a pretty cool piece if you want to own it for your collection. They are very generous with continues, so that's a bonus as well -- thanks for watching!
