NHL FaceOff 98 was developed by Killer Game (I honestly don't know what else they did), and published by Sony themselves. It was released in 1997 and is a Sony exclusive.

Why did I pick this game? Well, since it wasn't made by EA (the normal NHL series) I figured we'd give it a try. It's definitely an NHL game, and it plays pretty well, all things considered. The lack of music or relevant sound effects is very weird --- for instance, you don't realize you score a goal until well after it happens. There's no buzzer or airhorn, or even replays. This is about as bare-bones as you can get, but in fairness, it is an early PS1 game, and it does play pretty well. Thanks for watching!
