RayStorm was released in October 1996 for the PS1. It was developed by Taito and published by Working Designs (and Taito?).

People generally love Working Designs games, and it's easy to see why --- they brought over a lot of RPGs that we never would have gotten to experience, and their games had a certain class/silliness/charm all of their own. As Trev said, they were kind of like the prototypical NIS America.

After playing RayStorm, I think Trevor and I disagree on this one a fair share. He wasn't super impressed, but the more I think about it, the more I like this game. It's not as good as Darius Gaiden on Saturn (what is?), but it's a really solid game. My only major complaints - and these are complaints with a lot of 3D shooters - is that the backgrounds are too busy, and because of that, it is hard to see the bullets a lot of the time.

I did like the pace of play, the fact that it's not ridiculous difficult, and it looks like it has power-ups, maybe only if you play single-player? That's an interesting function, if so. Anyway, this is one you're going to want to play any way you can - thanks for watching!
