CiB Let's Try - Tony Meola's Sidekicks (SNES)
Tony Meola's Sidekicks was released for the SNES in November 1993, and you're going to be super excited for this - it's a soccer game. Woo!
Sidekicks was developed by Sculptured Software, which at some point became Acclaim, who made a fair share of average to below average games back in the day. It was published by Electro Brain, who published Puss N Boots for NES, Felix the Cat for Game Boy, and a bunch of other 'ho-hum' games that passed through the cracks of time.
Tony Meola is, unsurprisingly, a (former) soccer player. He played on three US National Teams at FIFA World Cups, and he played in Major League Soccer. He was only 23 or 24 when this game was released, which I do find interesting, as older, retired players tend to be used for games like this.
You'll have to forgive me - I really like trying out random sports games I never heard of. I know it's just a soccer game, but it does have some pretty cool presentation (Mode 7?), and an interesting menu system. This will go down as one of our shortest videos ever, but hey, if you want a random SNES soccer game you've probably never heard of --- you've come to the right place. Thanks for watching!
