Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth (which is a pretty cool title) was released on July 10, 1998 for the Nintendo 64. It was developed by Hudson Soft (ye of Bomberman infamy), and published by Electro Brain in the US (who existed from 1990 to 1998, and also published Puss 'n Boots for the NES!).

Now this is a rarity -- a 2D game on the N64. Yes, it has 3D sprites, but I would definitely count this as a 2D game considering the gameplay is a standard vertical shooter. I can't think of another 2D shooter on the N64, and if you can, let us know in the comments!

Overall, Star Soldier doesn't reinvent the wheel in any way, but it's a really solid 2D shooter, and being that it's a pretty uncommon game of an uncommon genre for the N64, we can definitely suggest this one, whether collecting, or playing any way you can. Thank you for watching!
