Cities: Skylines S2 — part 26 — Barbell Intersection & Madison Heights Metro
We start with yet another redo of the Madison Heights junction, of course. This time, we decide on a barbell, hoping that maybe that will be sufficient.
It's not as easy as it sounds, unfortunately. The intersection gets jammed almost immediately, and not even TM:PE tweaks seem to help. And all of that, seemingly, because heavy traffic wants to get to the industrial zone by circling around Madison Heights, instead of taking a left turn directly into the industrial zone... for some reason.
Let's at least make the barbell look nicer and hope that will help. Especially that one heavily-sloped road looks ugly, so maybe rising this side's roundabout would make it look better? That, and some Node Controller magic.
Traffic jam has moved somewhere else, apparently. Now the whole main road trying to exit the city from the right side is completely jammed. One sure way to reduce traffic is provide better public transportation. So perhaps a metro line would be of help? Something that can get people to the other side of the river without using the highways.
Not an easy task either, it turns out. First, C:S doesn't think the metro should stay underground, so it just creates a dam. Figures. Then, it refuses to let us connect two metro stations with a line. Even though they're connected with tracks.
With that eventually done (and redone because of pathing issues) we can do some other stuff. Like connecting our city park. It seems that cars do need to get there, like hearses. Who could've predicted that, right? Thankfully, replacing one of the pedestrian paths with a proper road isn't all that hard of a task. And we can build up the park itself while we're at it!
Lastly, we go on a bit of a journey throughout the city to do some minor fixes and examine the state of traffic and potential solutions of it.

Cities: Skylines is a modern take on the classic city simulation. The game introduces new game play elements to realize the thrill and hardships of creating and maintaining a real city whilst expanding on some well-established tropes of the city building experience. You’re only limited by your imagination, so take control and reach for the sky!
*Multi-tiered and challenging simulation*
Constructing your city from the ground up is easy to learn, but hard to master. Playing as the mayor of your city you’ll be faced with balancing essential requirements such as education, water electricity, police, fire fighting, healthcare and much more along with your city's real economy system. Citizens within your city react fluidly, with gravitas and with an air of authenticity to a multitude of game play scenarios.
*Extensive local traffic simulation*
Colossal Order's extensive experience developing the Cities in Motion series is fully utilized in a fully fleshed out and well-crafted local traffic simulation.
*Districts and Policies*
Be more than just an administrator from city hall. Designating parts of your city as a district results in the application of policies which results in you rising to the status of Mayor for your own city.
*Utilize the Day and Night Cycle*
The city changes during the hours of the day and affects citizen schedules. Traffic is visibly slower at night and some zoned areas do not work with full efficiency. Cities: Skylines will put you in control of managing the different aspects of the day and night cycles.
*Extensive modding support*
Build or improve on existing maps and structures. You can then import your creations into the game, share them as well as download the creations of other city builders on the Steam workshop.
