Class select 128 - Half an FF seems a good time to play an FF
I love Final Fantasy, it's one of the first RPGs I ever played that used a Spells Per Day system, although later versions of the game moved on toward a mana point system. It's an important part of history in how Square saw an opportunity to make their own take on the genre of RPGs, and jumpstarted that arms race between Square and Enix.
Decades later, you get to Final Fantasy 7, The first entry in the series to be run on compact disc, and with it a massive increase in available space and complexity. The production team who worked on 7 had a vision early on to bring at least some part of this story to as many people as possible via as many mediums as possible. There were comics, there were mobile phone games, there were radio shows and light novels. Final Fantasy 7 was supposed to be a big jump in how people would be able to connect over a story without being bound to a specific genre of gameplay, but it also made it very difficult to be able to enjoy -every- part of the story.
Another 20 years later, I still have no idea how the Before Crisis story of the Turks and the employment of Vincent Valentine actually went before he was eventually found in a certain place I wasn't allowed to show during this stream. Smile.
Crisis Core takes place before the events of Final Fantasy 7, and if you think things are getting convoluted, we haven't even made it to the official Remake. You might also notice a naming convention with the game entries here, although it may take some doing for me to be able to play the entirety of the FF7 games on stream. I'll have to consider it a long term goal! FFAC (Advent Children) takes place 3 years after 7, which is followed by FFBC(Before Crisis) which happens before FFCC(Crisis Core), the prequel to FF7, which is followed by FFDC (Dirge of Cerberus), the story of Vincent, which happens after Advent Children. This timeline is terrible. XD
So! We go through a good portion of Crisis Core Reunion, which adds in additional FMV slot machine moments that break up combat in a way that catches your attention while you're in the middle of a fight and it's jarring to say the least. I'm happy to have more options for the little story beats though, and it looks as though there's a lot more unlockable dungeoneering for me to do via the sidequests so expect to see more of that!
