In this video, I am giving a brief history of Gottlieb's 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' from 1978. The table has an interesting history in part because it was made when Columbia Pictures owned the rights to Gottlieb's Pinball Division. So Columbia wanted to create a table that was based on their 1977 Science-Fiction film of the same name, kind of like a tie-in with the movie.
The machine churned out over 9,000 units in total but most were solid states. The VPX version in this video is based off the EM which were made in smaller numbers.
