Clu Clu Land (NES) Complete Walkthrough
Released in 1984 by Nintendo for the Family Computer (Famicom), Clu Clu Land is a fixed-screen action game that combines unique controls with puzzle elements. It was later released as an arcade version for the VS. System, and in 1992, as Clu Clu Land D for the Famicom Disk System (FDS).
The protagonist, a red fish named Bubbles, sets off on an adventure through the mysterious world of Clu Clu Land to uncover hidden gold ingots. A special force governs this world: Bubbles moves straight by default, and players must use the D-pad to grab “turn posts” to rotate or bounce off walls to change direction.
Each stage hides gold ingots that appear when Bubbles passes between posts. Finding all the gold clears the stage. However, contact with enemies called Unira, falling into black holes, or running out of time will result in losing a life. Bubbles can emit ultrasonic waves to temporarily stun enemies and push them into walls to eliminate them.
The game supports both single-player and two-player simultaneous play, with each player having their own lives. From Stage 22 onward, gold ingots flip back over if passed again, adding extra puzzle difficulty.
Clu Clu Land has been ported to various platforms, including the Game Boy Advance’s Famicom Mini series, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U’s Virtual Console, and the Famicom Nintendo Switch Online.
Due to its distinctive controls and puzzle mechanics, the game attracted significant attention at the time and has influenced later Nintendo titles.
