Cobra Kai on YouTube Red Outperforms Some of Netflix and Hulu’s Biggest Shows
Variety reported on the analytics surrounding the viewership for ‘Cobra Kai’ according to Parrot Analytics. They reported that for the week of May 6-12, Cobra Kai outperformed Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why’ and ‘Arrested Development’ and Hulu’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’
It’s the first time that a YouTube Red show has topped the streaming competition. It reached its peak on May 7th when it had more than 54% demand than ‘13 Reasons Why’, more than twice the demand for ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’; and a whopping 121% more demand than Netflix’s ‘Lost in Space.’ The show is set thirty years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the series focuses on Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) reopening the Cobra Kai dojo, which causes his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to be reignited.
Mark Reilly and John Rocha sit down to give you their thoughts on this news and their overall reaction to these numbers. They also explore what this means for ‘Cobra Kai’ going forward and for the YouTubeRed streaming service as a whole. Will this attract new viewers to their other content? Do they need another hit immediately after in order to keep these new subscribers or did Cobra Kai buy them some patience with the audience? Reilly and Rocha answer these questions as well.
