Today's hack has a fun and nerve-wracking gimmick - can you collect all the coins before time is up? You don't have much!

Hey everyone, welcome to Coin Hunt 2! This is by WhiteYoshiEgg, who is quite the prolific hack creator on SMWCentral, as well as a creator of many other assets. This is my first hack by him though, and I haven't had the pleasure of playing Coin Hunt: The Original yet.

The concept here is simple - you have a small level, some coins, and a short time to collect them all. I normally don't like super tightly timed levels, but these were short enough to make them very fun. It was hard, but it wasn't a big commitment to try again if you failed, so it was satisfying. Short levels + infinite lives = difficulty can be as high as you want, hahah.

The last level was a bit of a challenge, and I thought it was a bit too hard at first, but looking back it was perfect. The game gave you six levels to get ready and a gauntlet to show off your skills at the end, and again, the challenge was just right to be difficult but not frustrating. I love it when they nail the curve, that's one of the hardest parts in my opinion. Just ordering the levels so they ramp up can be a hard task sometimes.

You control two characters in this hack as well, Mario and Luigi as you would expect. This is pretty neat, and I've never seen a hack that works this way. Both characters have slightly different controls, with Luigi jumping high as he usually does, and Mario having the ability to break blocks. This allows you to find some secrets after you beat the main game. I love how you couldn't get your character to the secret areas until you met up in the middle and broke down the final boss castle.

Everything about this hack was beautiful. It looked nice, it sounded nice, it played nice, it was interesting, it was challenging, it wasn't frustrating, it was original, it had a different objective than most hacks, it used an 8-bit graphics set I've never seen before, it had a symmetrical overworld (haha), and I had a flippin' blast playing it. Truly one of the better ones, thanks for making it WhiteYoshiEgg!

Plot:
The Coin Hunt 2 is a small, gimmicky hack in which each level's objective is to collect all coins. You'd better hurry up, though, as you're constantly low on time!

As the name may imply it's a sequel to The Coin Hunt, a 2009 hack of mine similar in length and spirit. The Coin Hunt was deliberately styled like a Game Boy game, and thus featured black-and-white graphics. For the sequel I had always planned to (seemingly) move to a more advanced system — that's why The Coin Hunt 2 is styled like an NES game, featuring 8-bit graphics and an overall simplistic design.

Hey folks, not too much to say here today. Basically, I'm still going through a lot of tooth pain. I'm working out the details still to get it taken care of, but all I know so far is it is gonna cost me a fortune.

You might not see daily uploads return for a while, as my spare time is dedicated towards working overtime now. I need to grab as many OT hours as I can while they're still available to help pay for things. I'm not jumping ship or anything though, just considering knocking it down to every other day or something like that until I get myself squared away.

No final decision on that yet though, I'm not really sure what I want to do. For now I'll just keep trying to get a video out when I can.
