What's going on in Comic Books this week?
DC Vertigo
DC is revitalizing their Vertigo imprint, with “Socially Aware” books lineup. Most Controversial of the creators listed in the press announcement is writer Zoe Quinn. She will be writing a book called “Goddess Mode” that, regrettably, sounds a little interesting. All the books on the list are full of buzzfeed worthy titles that the more “woke” readers will find incredibly awesome…
Young Justice and Wonder Comics
At NYCC this weekend Brian Michael Bendis went into details about his new teen-oriented imprint Wonder Comics. The first book will be Young Justice debuting in January of next year. Bendis will be creating a new hero for the imprint as well, with co-writer David Walker, named Naomi. Her story will have some sort of massive effect across the whole DCU.
Wonder Twins
Also debuting next year on Wonder Comics, this is the first time we will see the twins in this post-Rebirth continuity. In February.
Flash: Year One
Batman and Superman both got it. Now it is the Flash’s turn to get the Year One treatment. Creative team: Joshua Williamson and Howard Porter both of whom are Flash vets for the last 3 years or so.
Batman: 3 Jokers
Geoff Johns on the DC panel at NYCC showed off some artwork from possibly the most exciting Black Label book. We see that the eras we can attribute to each Joker is, Classic 60s, Killing Joke, and Original. Other concept art shows Batman, Batgirl, and Red Hood Jason Todd. Not a whole lot is known yet about the book, not even its official release date. Though Johns wants to release it sometime this winter!
Winter Soldier
Kyle Higgins is doing a mini series on Bucky Barnes. Speaking at a panel at NYCC Higgins said the story will “reinvent the character.” He also said that they basically are turning him into an “AA sponsor for people trying not to be evil.” Sounds a little Venture Brothers-ish. Comes out Dec 5.
Wolverine: The Long Night
The podcast is being turned into a comic book! Not only that but the audio is now free everywhere you get podcasts AND the writer, Benjamin Percy (a Marcio Takara), has hinted that this may be the beginning of a Podcast Universe!
