Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn Custom Mission - GDI - "Africa Recon"
Don't watch this if you want to play this level without spoilers, in the event I upload it somewhere. (It still needs a briefing, and a better name than the placeholder I gave it).
After doing my map edit of PATSUX to be a reverse of sorts with a Sandbox type map for Nod and a mixed GDI/Nod base to take out (I saw it as a sequel of sorts), I thought I would add some scripts so the AI actually does stuff outside default behaviour, I thought I would make a basic level.
The crate (and Chinook) behind the tree was a call back to Red Alert level 10 in the Allies campaign.
I acutally played this pretty badly. Could've mopped up the NW outpost with the Commando alone had he not took initial damage from the Flamethrower as a result of a misclick.
You could take out the NW objective by microing the ORCAs, but it would take a while. Better to get the crate and maybe capture the Silos and sell buildings to get the required forces for the rest of the level
It's intended to be the first of a two part level.
If you look further into the map, you would see room for expansion.
So things left to do on this before I move on to the second part.
Find how to add a text briefing (I know which video ones to add for appropriateness).
Maybe look at improving some of the design, the template pieces look a bit clunky - particularly the extra rocks on the cliff segment, and a bit of the river (which was a last minute addition and edit).
Potentially add another small surprise to the map, or a couple more scripts.
Think of a better name.
The flavour/story (whatever you want to call it) behind this mission is pretty much as follows (it will help show why the win/lose conditions are as they are too).
Briefing:
After a successful campaign in Europe, GDI have recently set up a small outpost by the Suez canal in Egypt to begin a counter offensive in Africa and receive a distress call from within a nearby village stating that Nod are in the vicinity and holding them hostage.
Your job is to investigate and disable all Nod communications in the region before you can be discovered.
GDI hasn't committed a lot of resources to this mission, and hence rely on ORCAs for their main reconnaissance. Supplies to replace them are currently logistically untenable, so destruction of the Helipads will leave GDI blind, and therefore will result in a failure to gain a foothold in the region. /end briefing.
