Comparison: RetroTink 2X Pro VS Portta Component-to-HDMI Converter -No Commentary- (RE4 Wii Edition)
Perhaps this wasn't the best game to do the comparison with, but this one is kind of hard to call. I do like the color on the Retrotink2X Pro better (the blacks are better), but the Progressive Scan (480p) upscaled to 1080p on the Portta does bring out some better detail.
The Retrotink 2X Pro is running 480i through component cables and converts 480i to 480p. The Portta is running 480p through the same component cables and upscaling it to 1080p. The footage was captured through an Elgato HD60s and OBS. I capture at 1080p, and then upscale to 4K in my editing software.
If I do another comparison of these two in the future, I'll probably use a more colorful game for more clear results.
My Portta Use-case is mostly for progressive scan Wii and Gamecube games, but the Retrotink does come in handy for those games on both that don't support progressive scan output.
NOTE: Forgive my newbie playing of this game. The only version of RE4 I own is the Wii version. I've had absolutely zero interest in ever owning it on the PS2 or Gamecube, or in general. I figured that if I'm going to finally pick the game up, I may as well get the most interesting version of the game to play.
