Complete in Box Let's Try - Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn
Shaq Fu is an infamous SNES/Gen/Game Boy game that really is worthy of all of the notoriety - it's a fighting game starring Shaquille O'Neal that just plain stinks. The story is weird, the graphics are okay, but what really takes the cake are the controls. In a fighting game, you really need just one thing --- solid controls ---- and Shaq Fu has some of the worst controls imaginable. It's hard to even explain it without trying it yourself. Suffice to say, it's pretty well-known in the retro community.
Recently, a sequel was crowdfunded - Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn. It was traded into the store recently, so we had to give it a try. Honestly, it has a lot more polish than I would expect, and, having Shaq do the voice is a great touch (although probably took most of the budget).
Unlike the first game, this one is a brawler a la Streets of Rage, and it's okay. As you can tell from the video, it very, very quickly becomes boring - brawlers are tough, because you don't want them to get too hard too fast, but at the same time, doing the same thing over and over can get tedious. I can't imagine the game is super long, but, it sure got tedious quickly.
A special 'yikes!' shoutout to some of the jokes in the 15 minutes we played. We get what they were going for but --- yikes!
