0The Spyro re-mastered trilogy is coming out in November, so we thought we would take a look back at the original Spyro for PS1.
For me, the original Spyro is where it's at. It's a great length - you can definitely beat it, possibly 100% it in one day - it's tough, but not super difficult, and, most importantly, it's a collect-a-thon.
There is a very fine line when it comes to collect-a-thon games. If you have too little to collect, it is too easy, and, if you have too much to collect, it gets frustrating. Look at Banjo-Tooie as an example of too much to collect -- there is simply so much going on in that huge game, that it's hard to push yourself to get everything.
Spyro 1 is a pretty simple game - you collect treasure, dragons, and dragon eggs. Each level tells you exactly how many of each there are, and you go searching. That's not to say that finding 100% of everything is easy - there's a lot of hidden treasure.
Because of limitations on the time we have for our Let's Play sessions (roughly 2.5 hours per week), I'm not going to take much time to search for every little bit of treasure - i.e., if I find I'm missing something, I'm not going to spend 10 minutes searching for it. So, you'll see a decent amount of levels where I find 99% of items, then go in my off-time to complete the level. Don't worry, you're still seeing the whole game minus a few crevices.
