Conclave Mentor +1 Counters PEDH Goldfish Playtest | Pauper EDH
Playtesting a PEDH Selesnya +1 counters build helmed by Conclave Mentor which can generate 50 power on board by turn 9! Conclave Mentor is a cheap counter amplification effect in the command zone that can help the deck power out an overwhelming board state in order to win by turn 9-10. Pauper EDH's meta is very different than normal commander because player's life totals start at 30 and only cards of the common rarity can be put into the 99.

Conclave Mentor is a great choice as a commander in Pauper EDH for a deck centered around +1/+1 counters. A staple from the set Core Set 2021, Conclave Mentor is a green-white (Selesnya) creature that embodies the values of growth and resilience intrinsic to the Selesnya Conclave.
History and Origins: Conclave Mentor is a spiritual successor to cards like Hardened Scales but with an added benefit—life gain. This card emerged in a meta where counters were increasingly being seen as a crucial mechanic, and it offers a potent boost by doubling the effectiveness of your +1/+1 counter placements. Given the restrictions of Pauper EDH, where only common cards are allowed except for the commander, Conclave Mentor’s rarity at uncommon makes it a perfect fit for this unique format.
Synergies: The deck thrives on efficient, low-cost creatures that either enter the battlefield with +1/+1 counters or can easily gain them. Cards like Safehold Elite and Duskshell Crawler synergize perfectly with Conclave Mentor, allowing you to rapidly escalate your board state. The Mentor’s ability to also provide life gain when creatures with counters die adds a layer of durability, giving you the staying power to outlast your opponents in the late game.
Deckbuilding Techniques: Building around Conclave Mentor involves leveraging cards that either place additional counters or protect your investment in your creatures. Spells like Travel Preparations or Rancor amplify your offensive capabilities, while Flicker of Fate allows you to reset and reuse creatures with enters-the-battlefield effects that place counters. The challenge is to balance between creatures that benefit from counters and spells that enhance your counters' effects, while maintaining a streamlined mana curve. Additionally, mana ramp, such as through Rampant Growth, ensures that you can deploy your strategy consistently without being hampered by mana shortages.
In conclusion, Conclave Mentor as a commander in a Pauper EDH deck offers an exciting, synergistic experience, rewarding careful deckbuilding and strategic play focused on overwhelming your opponents with an ever-growing army of buffed creatures.
Magic: The Gathering (MTG) is a popular collectible card game created by Richard Garfield and first released by Wizards of the Coast in 1993. It combines strategy, fantasy, and storytelling in a richly immersive game where players assume the roles of powerful spellcasters known as Planeswalkers. Each player builds a deck of cards representing magical spells, creatures, and artifacts, using them to battle opponents in a competition to reduce their life total to zero. The game is played using a variety of card types including lands which provide mana to cast spells, creatures that are used to attack and defend, and instants and sorceries which produce powerful one-time effects.
Magic features a complex ruleset and deep strategic elements, with gameplay that often involves constructing decks tailored to specific strategies, known as archetypes. With various formats like Standard, Modern, and Commander, MTG offers diverse gameplay experiences. Its expansive lore, numerous expansions, and continuous updates keep the game fresh and engaging. Players enjoy the dynamic nature of deck-building, strategic planning, and the thrill of both competitive and casual play.
