[Synopsis]

This is a game play video of Conflict which was a NES game released in 1989 by Vic Tokai. A sequel was released for the SNES called Super Conflict which was a hexagon based turn based strategy game. Hexagon turn based strategy game was very popular in the 1980s and the early 1990s, and SSI was known for making a lot of games of this type.

A game like this is like a chess game, and each unit has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, a gunship helicopter is very effective against tanks, APCs, and infantry men. A jet fighter is effective against helicopters, bombers, and fighter bombers. A SAM(Surface to Air Missile) is effective against helicopters, fighters, and bombers. Artillery and strike aircraft are good for providing support for ground forces. You also have to consider the types of terrain on the map, because different terrains provide different levels of protection for ground forces. For example, a forest provides more protection for infantry than on a flat plain. A mountain provides the best defensive position for infantry, etc.

A game like this does take a lot of time to play when you really get into it. Military Madness was another popular hexagon based turn based strategy game released for the NEC PC-Engine/Turbografx-16. As for these types of games, I enjoyed games like this. On the PC, I played games, like Panzer General series, Steel Panthers I to III, Age of Rifles, People's General, etc. Turn based strategy games were popular in the 1980s up to the mid 1990s, because real time strategy games weren't a viable option due to technological limitations. As computer and video game consoles became more powerful, real time strategy games began to take root, and they eventually phased out turn based strategy games altogether.
