[Synopsis]

This video is a complete play through of The Adventures of Bayou Billy for the NES. I used cheats to play this game, or I would have never beaten it. When I first played this game in 1989, I wasn't able to beat it. It was difficult back then, and it is still a very difficult game today.

This game stands out, because you can play in many different points of view. For example, you can play the beat em up isometric view, the first person gallery shooter mode, and the racing mode in 3rd person vehicle mode as well. The game itself was programmed very well, and it is the very definition of a NES Konami game of the mid and late 1980s. The Nintendo Seal of Approval was well deserved for this game, like all Konami and Ultra games of this period.

When this game first debut in 1989, it cost about $49.99 retail, and that was about the average price for most new NES titles at the time. $49.99 in 1989 is equivalent to about $107 today. Most video or computer games today don't cost that much. Back in the day, my allowance was about $20/week, so I bought a new game every month. The money definitely went further back then.

The game play and game mechanics are good, and it is very responsive. Never the less, it is still a difficult game. Back in 1989, we didn't have the Game Genie, so the only way to beat this game was by being very good at it.

1989 was the year when the NEC Turbografx-16 and the Sega Genesis were released, so this was the year that started the 16 bit era. Even with all these innovations, this game was sorely lacking compared to 16 bit video game consoles. Despite this fact, the NES survived up to 1995. The NES had a service life of 10 years, and that is a very long time for a video game console.
