Developed by Rare during the studios peak, Conker was one of the final games released for the N64 in March of 2001. To this day I still can’t believe this game actually exists yet here we are… Conker is a cutsey looking 3d platformer wrapped in a blood soaked, foul mouthed… and hilarious package. What might first appear to be a joke game is actually one of the most technically impressive games on the N64… Some of the best graphics the system had to offer and somehow fully voiced dialogue all stuffed into one 64mb cartridge.

Conkers Bad Fur Day follows the titled squirrels journey home to his girlfriend Berry after a drunken night out on the town. Along the way he meets a cast of eccentric characters, gets up to plenty of ridiculous antics, and finds himself in a few dated movie parodies…

Conker wasn’t always so foul… Bad Fur Day actually began development as Conkers Twelve Tales, which would have been a run of the mill cutesie platformer like Rares previous games until they said screw it and just flipped it upside down and made essentially a parody of the genre that they themselves had perfected… Oh and for the sake of everyones eyes, I’m going to switch over to the Xbox One version real quick… There that’s better.

Unlike something like Banjo Kazooie, Conker follows a more linear progression… it’s a bit more like a story driven action platformer than an open ended collectothon. Not to mention, this game is DIFFICULT, conkers journey will most certainly include plenty of deaths.

As ironic as it is to Nintendos family friendly image, Conker stands as the N64’s swan song. With some frustrating camera issues aside, Conker still holds up today
