This presentation describes a body of practice-led research relating to the development of technologies for gallery-focused fine artists. It describes the critical models, observational studies, design processes, and practical activities informing the creation of an exemplar software-based artists’ tool. This tool, an application named Foamcore Modelmaker, provides a means of pre-visualising the various gallery spaces in which artists might show their work, both via on-screen representation, and also through the export of dynamically generated kits aiding in the creation of physical scale models. A novel, card-based means of design ideation, developed in support of this research, is described as well, and is considered in regards to its applicability within non-artistic domains.
