Corrosive scum in XBOX controller

We have seen this several times in controllers where they get a white layer in the controller. This layer is corrosive and will eventually damage the controller. We are not entirely sure where this comes from but it has been suggested it is sweat and just accumulates. I tend to strip my controllers and clean them occasionally.
