Claus Terhoeven and Stefan Bossems met in November 1998 in Cologne while working on projects for the X-IT label. They decided to try a collaboration and recorded a track together
When asked about the origin of the name Cosmic Gate, the guys answer: " We were once sitting in the studio with our sales manager and he said that our music is heavy and dope, but it has a kind of cosmic touch to it. We had two options - 'Cosmic' and 'Star Gate', from which the name 'Cosmic Gate' was later derived
As a result, the gentlemen recorded a track entitled "The Drums" , which reached high positions in the German charts in May 1999. Thus, a new project was born
KLAUS TERHAVEN
was born on 10 November 1972 in Duisburg. From an early age he showed an interest in music. Thus, from the age of eight until he obtained his high school diploma in 1991, he took piano lessons, which came in very handy in his future
His DJ career began at the age of 17. He played in various clubs and in 1994 became a resident at one of the biggest E-dry. But Klaus didn't stop there, because he didn't just want to mix records, he also wanted to compose himself. He decided to devote himself completely to music and even gave up his studies
Three years later, with his own project Strings Of Harmony, his single reached the TOP30 of the official Dutch charts. A series of collaborations and remixes for well-known producers and projects such as Sash!, Talla2XLC, Oliver Moldan, Yello, SuperMax etc. followed.
STEFAN BOSSEMS (DJ BOSSI)
originally from Krefeld, Germany, made his name as both a music producer and DJ by 1998. As a producer, he started writing music and releasing tracks as early as 1992 with the projects NAD and Unknown Structure!
His tracks
"I Don't Care", "Time To Make The Floor Burn", "To The Sky", tracks from 1996-97 together with Jaspa Jones in the Me & Mr. project were successful, Remixes for Kosmonova, Sash!, Dario G, as well as the global charity project United Deejays For Central America (track "Too Much Rain")
Immediately after the Cosmic Gate project's debut single, the second appeared - "Mental Atmphere", even surpassed the success of the previous one and entered almost all official charts not only in Germany, but also in the Netherlands
Inspired by the success of their first singles, they released further hits 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' and 'Fire Wire' (reaching number 9 in the English charts), which eventually secured the project a high position in the European dance industry market
Released in February 2001, their debut album 'Rhythm & Drums' hit the German charts, which was a huge success. Cosmic Gate released further megahits - 'Exploration Of Space' and 'Melt To The Ocean'. Finally, after the exploration of space and the oceans, Cosmic Gate returned to Earth with the new hit 'Back to Earth'
The summer of 2002 was marked for the guys by the creation of the album 'No More Sleep' and the single 'The Truth', which climbed to the top of the charts just one week after its release!
After this album, their style began to change and move away from hard trance, and songs began to appear that leaned more towards the increasingly popular progressive trance. The autumn of 2002 was marked by collaborations on the compositions 'The Wave' and 'Raging' with the famous singer Jan Johnston
After releasing their first successful mix compilation 'Back To Back' in April 2003 with the release of 'Human Beings', the guys started working in the studio, doing remixes for other musicians and promoting their own label E-Cutz
The titanic work done was duly rewarded at the end of 2003 with the first entry in the list of the 100 best DJs in the world according to DJMag
In 2004, E-Cutz released the two-part vinyl Different Concept EP. In 2005, E-Cutz released the second compilation "Back To Back Vol.2". Already in September 2006, the guys released their third album "Earth Mover" on Black Hole, which contained all their best work as well as unreleased tracks. This album became one of the best dance albums of the year
In addition, they took part in many external projects
BOSSI collaborated with another famous figure of electro-house music - DJ Delicious
