Cosmic Smash for the Sega Dreamcast, from 2001. Skinner and A-Bomb.
It's been awhile since we played a Dreamcast game, so we took Cosmic Smash for a spin. Released in 2001 in Japan, it's a port of an arcade game that's basically Tron-meets-squash-meets-Breakout. Unlike most other releases, this game came in a DVD-style case with a translucent cover. The disc is the color of the ball in the game, and was placed upside-down in the case so that the character on the front appears to be hitting the disc/ball. You can see it in the bottom right corner of the video. You can use the stick or the D-Pad, so A-Bomb was happy about that, though the controls are a little twitchy. We took turns on the levels and made it through about eight or so before our timer ran out. Had we made it farther, there are several branching paths that don't reconnect at the end, so there are a bunch of routes and final levels, which helps the replay value.
I ran into the arcade version in a Texas airport about 20 years ago. It's unusual looking, which you can see in the video. The arcade version was not released in the US, so I was surprised to see it.
Thanks to Front 242 for the intro/outro music.
