July the 27th 2021 is the release date for Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Xbox Series S and X consoles. Tomorrow (at the time of writing this video) you'll be able to stroll to your local electronics store, pick up an Xbox Series S for £250 / $299, subscribe to Xbox Game Pass ultimate for £10.99 a month (or probably get a new sub deal for much less), and be playing what looks to be an amazing game.
The work Phil Spencer has done over the last few years to help Xbox catch up with PlayStation has been transformative.
The focus on Xbox as a Game Platform, not a TV device. The drive to make Xbox THE backwards compatible console. The creation and expansion of Games Pass, bringing day-one release AAA games at an unbelievably good value price.
The release of two next-gen Xbox Consoles - the Series S aimed at players who still had 1080p TV's and the full-fat 4K Series X to compete directly with the PS5, has been the icing on the cake.
Sure, the world-wide pandemic induced shortage of computer chips has been in Xbox's favour, making PlayStation owners desperate for next-gen consider switching brands because Xbox is all you can buy - BUT it could be this game, Flight Simulator, finally coming to console, and at such a cheap price, that triggers those nostalgic buttons in older gamers and really makes significant numbers of Sony fans switch to Microsoft.
