It's a bit harder to build diagonal ships since they require more planning and you can't moirror the ship. In today's episode of Cosmoteer, I build a diagonal ship that uses mostly cannons. The ship has a few self propelled cannons, some roof mounted cannons, and a couple of machine guns on it. I find that diagonal ships are slower than traditional ships but they are more maneuverable. Although harder to design, broadside diagonal ship's weapons are also more forward facing than traditional broadsiders. This allows them to attack ships on either side of us without being surrounded.
