Crash Bandicoot 2 (N. Sane Trilogy) - Episode 3: Red Gem Rage
In this episode of the "Crash 2" playthrough, we get our hands on the red and green gems, though not without a bit of rage in regards to the former.
Apparently, just as the sun always rises from the east, so too is it destined that I must suffer when it comes to the red gem in "Crash Bandicoot" games. First, we have the red gem in the first game that took me almost two hours to get because you have to complete Slippery Climb with no deaths while breaking each and every box. Then, we get this game, where in order to get the red gem, you have to make your way through a rather difficult section of Snow Go- complete with countless nitro crates, numerous enemies in awkward locations, and ice... lots and lots and lots of ice and the wonky, torturous physics associated with it- that you can only access via a secret entrance that you can only access by a secret exit in Air Crash, one of my least favorite stages in the level.
Don't get me wrong; I don't dislike Air Crash because I find it to be a difficult stage (there are a number of later stages that make it look like Turtle Woods by comparison), rather, it's on my hate list because of how many times I end up replaying it due to me getting it confused with a later jet board stage. As such, every playthrough I end up dying before reaching the No Death platform, making it where it disappears. However, as seen in the video, instead of restarting the stage so that I can get one of the gems as well as the required crystal, I rush through the remainder of the stage expecting a timer to appear for the second gem, only for it to never appear. Then, as seen in the video, when I go back and get the gem from the No Death platform, I try to smash all of the boxes to get the box gem as well, only to realize that I'm wasting my time since the nitro switch is only accessible via a secret entrance that you get in the third set of levels.
Well, at least the green gem is much less of a hassle to get our hands on since all you have to do to get it is go through a fake door, leading to a secret portion of the level, get through the obstacles, and grab it.
