Crash Team Racing DEMO (Spyro 2) - PCSXR-PGXP/Pete'sOGL2 TWEAK
15I always knew this existed, but I never tried it out, until now. But this is actually very interesting, given that it's definitely a beta version of the game. There are many different things in Papu's Pyramid, and the "speedometer" thing is different as well, much better looking in my opinion. The levels in the multiplayer also have different or missing elements, but I would guess it's to preserve the framerate, as it's rendering multiple screens. The animations FPS also seems to be cut by half there, which makes sense, taking the PlayStation's capabilities into account (I never played much of this game's multiplayer to know the differences XD).
To access this demo in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (NTSC), simply hold L1 + R2 and press square on the "press start" screen.
Recorded at 960x720@60, upscaled to 1920x1080. The aspect ratio is a little weird in the beginning, because in this "beta", the Crash's engine common trick of rendering only 216 lines is still used, so 12 lines are missing in the top and bottom portions of the screen. It made those games run better, and most CRTs would conceal those black bars as overscan. But since Pete'sOGL plugins scaling options are broken, and the Spyro's engine method of overscan is a little bit different, I preferred scaling it to CTR's aspect ratio right away, since it was the subject of this video.
ResHack is "3 / 3", I used the fullscreen filter, and this time, I forced "NearestNeighbor" through the Tweaks, so pixels are sharp. It helped preserve the details of the different character icons, which are kinda ugly, but interesting nonetheless.
