Hey folks-- you knew that what with the console "20 From" series I've been doing, that the Nintendo Entertainment System/NES was going to be around the corner! And yep-- as is common with those series so far I do a quick tribute to the system itself before I get to its top 20 games (in my humble opinion). The tribute as always consists of information about the system, peripherals that came with the system or were sold separately, and other various tidbits that I felt necessary to impart upon the curious. This system was more than just a cool gaming system to those who grew up with it (I was in my mid-teens when it debuted in the US); it was a way of life! Boys, girls, adults ALL enjoyed the NES and could often recognize the characters Mario, Link, Simon Belmont, etc. The system sold almost a whopping SIXTY TWO MILLION UNITS worldwide! This blew out all other systems of its generation by a country mile. Over 700 official released games found life on the system, which ran in the US from 1985 to 1995-- a pretty good run! It did much better than its Japanese counterpart, the Nintendo Family Computer/Famicom, which was released in Japan in 1983 (and also had a floppy disk system starting in 1986). Long live the Gray Box! See you again soon for my top 20 games for the NES!
