Create Minimalism Using Automation In Logic Pro
In this demo, I explore a way to approach minimalism in electronic music. Minimalism is an art form that incorporates very little material for an extensive piece, whether, for example, that is one color for a huge art piece that requires a lot of space, or one note for a long, drawn-out composition.
Minimalism became widely known and accepted among artists as an art form in the New York scene in the 1960's, though the movement itself was also international at the time. It shared the same appeal as the Fluxus movement, where artists concentrated heavily on the process (working through a piece, or composing on the spot) and not on the final product itself (e.g. a final, polished performance).
While minimalism is not typically used in today's compositions, outside freestyle improvisations, we can use techniques in different ways. Here, I use automation in order to subtly change the nature of a given sound that is repeated over time.
For this demo, I use the plugin Enveloper to show you the changes in the attack, the attack gain, the release, and the release gain of my glass sound. Any reverb you hear was prerecorded in SuperCollider.
Hope this gives you ideas for your own experimentation!
