Creating Hemp Composite PLA Filament – Sustainable 3D Printing Innovation
I’ve been experimenting with natural fiber composites and created a hemp-infused PLA filament blend in multiple ratios (10%, 20%, 25%, and 30%). In this video, I walk through what composite filaments are, show examples like carbon fiber nylon, glass-filled PETG, metal-filled PLA, marble composites, and wood-filled PLA, then reveal my own hemp composite prototype.
This project combines sustainability with performance, opening up possibilities for eco-friendly 3D printing materials. If you’re a filament manufacturer or materials developer interested in taking this further, feel free to reach out — let’s make hemp composite filament a reality.
Materials covered in this video:
• Carbon Fiber Nylon (~20% CF)
• Glass-Filled PETG (~30% GF)
• Metal-Filled PLA (Copper, Steel, Bronze, Iron, Brass ~60% metal powder)
• Marble Composite PLA (~30% fine stone powder)
• Wood-Filled PLA (Walnut, Cherry ~30% sawdust)
• Hemp Composite PLA (10–30% hemp fiber)
