Crime Fighters is a 1989 Side Scrolling Beat'em Up created by Konami. This version is the Arcade Archives version for the Playstation 4. The object is to beat up every punk that you come across until you rescue all of the women that have been kidnapped. This is the first beat'em up I played that not only has a useable gun as a weapon, but also that allows you to kick enemies when they are knocked down.

One of the more frustrating things about this game is that when you pick up a knife, there is this motion your character performs that can cause you to get hit. Also, in the International version, if you get hit holding a pipe or knife, its gone. The Japanese version differs slightly too considering that its a three button game, whereas the other versions are a two button game. The third button in the Japanese version allows you to perform a back attack. In the other versions, the back attack is possible, but you have to hit the kick button when an enemy approaches you from behind. The Japanese version also has an energy gauge, whereas the other versions have a timer that ticks down. as you take damage, you lose time from the timer. This game was designed to be a quarter muncher.

My favorite thing about the game was the music & sound effects. The graphics were super detailed, but in 1989, they didn't have to be. The later levels do get more frustrating with the martial artists that attack you. Konami was great at producing great arcade games, especially 4-player arcade games. On a scale of 1 - 5, I give this game a 3.75.
