This is the two player Japanese version. The only reason I'm playing this one over the 4-player American version is that in the 4-player American version, you can't just select a turtle & play, its according to the player position. If this were an actual arcade cabinet & not an emulator, I would be on the far right end. In the 2-player Japanese version, you can select your character prior to playing, which is good because I like playing as Raphael. I didn't care as much for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles during the 80's until they came out with an arcade game. I never owned any of the toys that were released.

One thing I forgot about is how difficult this game was. I pumped in multiple credits & went through most of them. The music was "radical" because they were variants of the TV show theme. When this game was released on the NES, despite having smaller characters & the bosses being even more difficult to beat, it was amazing that they kept all of the stages from the arcade game. They even extended the stages & added two new stages to make the game play longer (which I didn't think they needed to do that). I also didn't care for the excessive Pizza Hut product placement scattered throughout the game.
