Crystalis speedrun, but made harder by randomizing the chests (by Team TASBot at MAGWest Go 2019)
MAGWest Go 2019 benefiting Child's Play was organized with substantial help from the TASBot community. This is the third run of the event featuring Crystalis by TheAxeMan.
Crystalis when not randomized is an awesome action RPG by SNK. Randomizing the game makes everything even more strange than normal, which is an accomplishment to say the least. What little plot there is involves the world ending on October 1, 1997. Naturally, after that the world became full of mutants and monsters. Technology regresses and people can use magic. There is an evil empire trying to revive the ancient technology, specifically the obligatory tower floating in the sky. The hero pops out of some sort of stasis chamber and proceeds to topple the empire and take down the tower with the help of some wise men and a friendly dolphin. A heroine named Mesia usually gets ignored in speedruns but is seen in rando runs like this one.
The Crystalis randomizer is a project that seeks to provide fresh gameplay experiences through the classic NES game Crystalis. The randomness of the chests in particular played heavily into a particular chest that has gone on to notoriety due to TheAxeMan not checking it in this run until circling back far later. Such are the challenges of a randomizer.
