The positive response to the episode led to a greenlight for CSI: NY which first aired in September 2004 and would run until 2013. The CSI universe is one of the most successful TV franchises of all time with the original series ranking as the most watched TV show in World at least 6 times between 2000 and 2016.

FUN FACT: There is a so called “CSI effect” which among other things has seen a change in the behavior of criminals and victims who have an increased awareness of forensic procedures leading to some offenders to more thoroughly clean up after their crimes while also leading some victims to spread their own dna on their attackers. And In jury trials there has been a report of heightened expectations among jurors of what forensics can prove forcing prosecutors to manage expectations while at the same time also forcing defense attorneys to pay special attention to attacking or undermining forensic evidence because its mere presence can sway juries.

Additional Fun Fact: In November 2004 a CBS producer was fired for interrupting the last 10 minutes of CSI: NY with a special breaking report on Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat’s death.
