Many people mistakenly believe the Killers are a British band and this is partially to do with their sound but also their path to success:

"Mr Brightside" was released by the Killers as their debut single in September 2003. The initial run was just 500 copies and was met with comparatively little interest. But the interest that was there came from Britain and so the Las Vegas based band began a tour across the Atlantic. Starting in smaller venues of less than 500 people, their performances earned them a loyal fan base and by March 2004 their second single “Somebody told me” had broken onto the chart leading to a re-release of "Mr Brightside" in May. This British popularity eventually allowed them to break onto the charts in the US and where their album, Hot Fuss, went platinum by the end of 2005. In late 2004 they were kind of “imported” to the USA. At one point as their album was going gold around October 2004 they were still playing venues, booked before their mainstream success, of under 1000. Within months they were playing stadiums.
