Cuphead - How to Beat Captain Brineybeard in Shootin n' Lootin Walkthrough Strategy Guide
27CUPHEAD: CAPTAIN BRINEYBEARD STRATEGY GUIDE - REGULAR DIFFICULTY
Recommended loadout: pea shooter, charge, energy beam, smoke bomb
PHASE 1
Captain Brineybeard sits atop his boat while you run around on the dock below. Shoot him by jumping or aiming upward at an angle, but don't stay still for too long; he has a ranged attack (parry the pink projectiles when you can). Also watch out for the suspended barrel that will drop on you whenever you're below it. Partway through the fight, the ship will begin to spit cannonballs across the pier (prepare for this attack when the ship makes a chewing motion).
Brineybeard will repeatedly whistle to summon one of three sea creatures:
1. Shark: Will swim past in the background, then lunge in from the left side of the screen. Move close to the ship to avoid.
2. Squid: Does no damage, but shoots ink blobs that darken the screen. Quickly shoot the squid to cancel the attack.
3. Dogfish: 3 or 4 of these will slide across the pier from right to left. (A periscope near the base of the boat signifies these are about to attack.) Duck to shoot them, or just jump to avoid.
PHASE 2
The ship becomes a monster with a huge mouth. Suspended barrel still tries to crush you (what a jerk). The uvula inside the mouth will attack, and is also the part you need to shoot. It will spit liquid-filled bubbles that travel in a loop-de-loop fashion; these are tricky to avoid until you get the hang of their movement pattern. When the mouth closes, it is charging a powerful laser attack; move somewhere where the barrel won't fall on you and duck to avoid this attack.
