Custom Catastrophe

This is the first video that traces the development of an interactive installation that I will be presenting at Nuit Blanche North in Huntsville, Muskoka, Ontario on July 22 between 8pm and 2am.
What you see here are the visuals that will be projected onto a screen. People will be able to trigger the falling objects and when they land on the ground they will make a sound, thereby producing a kind of audio composition that way. The dynamics of the installation is based on the 'rice pile' of self-organizing criticality - ie. irregular avalanches and possibly emergent phenomena.
I am using OpenFrameworks (a framework for creative coding specializing in interactive audio and visuals). The audio was added later and is part of this album:

that's right, its the 'whole nother stuff' album. The name of the song used in the animation is 'hypersnorpage'.
Be prepared for excessive delight and whimsy.

Anyways, regarding the software, you can see I have added the physics and a grid from which the spheres fall. You can grab any of the spheres and throw them around - you can see a bit of that at the end of the video.
This is my first project using OpenFrameworks, C++, and Kinect - uh oh - but the fact is, it is usable already..........
