Cyber Combat demo playthrough (Steam Next Fest Oct 2023)
I caught the trailer for this during the Next Fest livestream and was immediately skeptical about its visual accessibility, but I ended up with time to try it anyway. I'm glad I did.
The gunplay in Cyber Combat feels pretty good. The starting weapon isn't terribly good for ranged accuracy, but the demo does include 2 weapons that clearly each serve a purpose, and that's something touted on the game's store page - the player won't be overly inundated with weapons, and each one has a reason to exist.
Cyber Combat definitely _could_ do with some accessibility options, e.g. to reduce screen/muzzle flashes, and maybe even the contrast of close-up geometry lines to avoid dizziness. The demo completely lacks control customization, which I really hope we’ll see in the final version. There's also a very-confusingly-named "recording" option...which is actually just mouse smoothing (it's even re-worded in the in-game settings menu).
The minimal and high-contrast visuals do generally work in the game’s favor, though I did have trouble discerning what to do in some more hectic sections, and legitimately had no idea how I solved a couple of them. I also really enjoyed one particular section that was more pure platforming and a bit of a puzzle - I hope we’ll see more of that in the full game too.
I definitely had the experience of this game feeling better as a player than as a passive viewer, so if you're still on the fence, check out the demo for yourself on Steam.
