4I can't believe I ripped and tore the whole thing.
I ended up foregoing a couple of secrets in the late-game - and I gave up rather quickly on the last 2 rune trials which seemed patently unreasonable - but in exchange, I blasted through the entire remainder of the game... and stayed up way too late doing it.
The late-game boss fights are much more demanding (and tanky) than anything in the first 75% of the game, even on Hurt Me Plenty, to the point where after enough retries, I admittedly took partial advantage of the well-known BFG weapon-wheel cheese strat in the interest of not taking forever to finish the game. I have to wonder if there was ever any consideration for pacing boss fights more evenly throughout the campaign...
This probably doesn't speak well to my ability to survive Doom Eternal, since by most accounts I've heard, that gets even harder. But we get to find out, starting next weekend.
