DESCRIPTION ▼
Cyberpunk 2077 developers CD Projekt Red were hit with a cyberattack this week, with many confidential company files and source code for many of their games stolen and held to ransom. The official CDPR Twitter posted a statement on 9 Dec, including the 'ransom note' left by the perpetrators. Hackers claimed they stole documents relating to CDPR's accounting, admin, legal, HR and investor relations. They also claimed to have stolen source code for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Gwent and an unannounced version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (apparently RTX/next gen version).

CDPR's statement: "We will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor, being aware that this may eventually lead to the release of the compromised data... the compromised systems did not contain any personal data of our players or users of our services."

A few days later, it was claimed that the source code had been auctioned off for a "satisfying offer". Bids apparently began at $1m (via vx-underground on Twitter).
