Dairantou Uka Smash 2004 [大乱闘伺かスマッシュ2004] Game Sample - PC/Doujin
Wowee! More Doujin goodness! While playing a multitude of other games, I got the itch to go back through my archives and dig up some games, so I have a lot of Doujin videos on the backburner and I'm slowly releasing them on Youtube. This is the second of three games known as a "Drop-Off Action Game" that is moderately based off of Nintendo's "Smash Bros." series (known as "Dairantou Smash Brothers" in Japan), it was created with popular Japanese "Desktop Mascot" characters (or some would literally call them "Ghosts in the Shell") who interacted with users as they utilized their computers. It's not the first game to do so either, as other Doujin circles such as D.C.S. have done so with their "Enfai! Materia" fighting game as well as CClub-Flying and Triumphal Records' "Nanikura" vertical platformer. It is also known in some circles as "Rebellion Battle Ukagaka SMASH 2004". It is a simple game with nine base characters (and a few hidden), basic graphics, good music and somewhat improved gameplay. Pretty rare in the Doujin community, it supports 4-player action.
Like Smash, the goal of the game is to rack up damage on your opponents to make them lighter and lighter until they are sent flying off the edge of the screen, losing a life. Each character has different basic parameters like damage output and speed, a basic punch attack, the ability to hug most walls and a special skill unique to them, but lacks the multitude of items, and has a mostly simple level structure. New to this game are characters with multiple base attacks as well as upgraded and more versatile "Smash" attacks which differ in ability cost, creating some of the edge game in Smash Bros., though not all of them are attack abilities.
Another addition is that players can choose courses to adjust difficulty as well as pair up characters and switch between them at will, allowing you to strategize; for example, some characters might have a buff ability with a duration period that can be passed over to a character with brute strength or great speed, though damage is shared between characters. Consequently, items have been removed entirely. As such, it's a more casual experience for fans of the source material referenced within than anything ambitious and with the lack of a core fighting system (guarding, evasive maneuvers, etc.), it really is just an action game -- but, it served as the building blocks for "micro dream studio++" most ambitious title. The graphics are nice and colorful with decent character sprites, it handles well (though not as good as Smash), and is fun while it lasts.
This is a video of the game in action. Please note that since this game is quite old, it may have some performance issues on newer computers regardless of system specs, but runs fine for the most part and should be playable from start to finish. This version of the game does not appear to be available anywhere commercially, but you can find it at:
