Destruction Desire [デストラクションディザイア] Game Sample - PC/Doujin
An oldie but pretty goodie, Destruction Desire is a 2004 Fighter Maker game with more than a few similarities to Arc System's "Guilty Gear" with a teeny bit of Arcana Heart (which would actually come later), and has some almost horrifying Engrish (Where the game is also known as "Destraction Desire"... suvival... caracter... desain... and more?). The sprites and animations were top-notch from the dev, "Yew", at the time. The backgrounds and character voices are stock FM engine fare while the music and sounds are, unfortunately, stock RPG Maker 2000 fare. Regardless, it still fits pretty well with the characters and overall design.
The game has five playable characters who, aside from looking like GG-inspired clones, actually have some reasonably diverse movesets. Barns is like Sol but with Ky's element and some interesting (and kinda cheap) projectiles and attack-breaking skills. Wif is kinda like Testament and Zappa with his ability to control the zone and he can also summon different beasts to aid him in battle (and his ultimate attack "totally" doesn't turn him into a furry Justice). Misty is a trick/trap character who is also good at zoning, who fights similarly to I-no with some Zato-1 and Ash for good measure. Arenet fights similarly to Ky but has the interesting mechanic to manipulate fire/ice, changing her moveset and chaining priorities effectively. Lister utilizes powerful striking abilities and can increase his abilities depending on how many undead he's summoned, and he has quite a few cheap invincibility frames.
The game has your standard fighting mechanics with four attack buttons, a sort of "Roman Cancel" system to extend combos, and one unique feature, the "Z.O.D. Specials", or Zapping Overdrives (ザッピング.オーバー.ドライヴ). These abilities require special gauge to utilize, but each character's ultimate Z.O.D. costs at least three gauges and extends depending on the number of additional gauges you have. If you maxed out (or near-maxed) your gauges, you will execute a lethal series of attacks (the "boss" character's even has a chance to instant kill) and gauges are accumulated rapidly, so there is a heavy emphasis on overdrive usage. Attack clashes are also present to create an enjoyable meta-game, but you can only do so much with five characters.
This is a video of the game in action, going through the ending and "Level D / DD Mode". Level DD Mode is ordinarily extremely cheap, but there are certain A.I. flaws you can exploit if you put a certain amount of distance between you and the enemy. The game is freeware that you can get at:
