Metal Saver [메탈세이버] Game Sample - Arcade

Metal Saver is one of the earliest games from "First Amusement" (FiRST Amusement), with the company also being known as "Cheil Computer System". First Amusement disappeared and soon after, sorta taking its place, is the Korean company known as "Semicom". Being made in 1994 (with a demo also made for IBM PCs), Metal Saver, besides having an odd name, seems a lot more like a console effort than an arcade one, but one thing I have learned over the years is that there is a reason many consider Japan and some UK studios to be the top dogs of game creation...it is because some of the finest, well-crafted games came from those areas. With respect though, it should be noted that game development has come a long way in Korea, though in earlier days, you had a lot of games with hacked/borrowed content, and then, games like this. Now though, you get a lot of fine mobile games from Korea like Lyn: The Lightbringer, and lots of other games and amazing art.
Anyway, Metal Saver deals with two characters --- the attractive gunslinger, Narae, and the martial artist, Hanbit. The two of them generally are just taking care of all sorts of wild creatures and such across numerous levels and the game benefits from co-op play, since the two characters are actually different from each other, but single play is possible...though note that Narae has issues hitting "low to the ground" enemies without her flamethrower power-up (which can actually be an issue with clearing a couple of stages, or so it is said)...you can blame poor planning for that. However, of the two characters, Narae has more long-lasting ranged fighting, so she has an advantage there, whereas Hanbit will have to get up close and personal more often, though he does have special attacks he can use. Power-ups include health items and firepower for Narae, as well as "energy" and a sort of shield. There are also "skulls" that drop your life when grabbed.
The objective is pretty straightforward; DESTROY EVERYONE. Clear all the enemies to advance to the next stage. After several stages, you will encounter bosses, who have their own tricks and some may be easier for one character than the other (Narae seems as though she would be good for most though, if I had to guess). Visuals are so-so (though again, there are plenty of arcade games around this time that have more life and style)...the audio is OOF. It isn't a deal breaker, but...I mean, LISTEN to it. Not much going on there. Lastly, looking at the default high scores, the message "Korea is the best" can be seen.
