“Damning in every department”: Essendon great savages former side following Dockers smashing
Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd has savaged his former side after they were smashed by Fremantle on Sunday. The Bombers looked listless in a 48 point defeat. with the game breaking open in the second half after a tight opening two quarters. Essendon. who now slump to a 1 4 record after five rounds. were exposed for a lack of work rate as Fremantle’s midfield took control after half time. Lloyd said the Bombers would miss finals in the aftermath of a defeat which he described as one of the worse he’s witnessed. “I’m putting a line (through their finals chances) right now.” he said on AFL Media's Access All Areas. “I was there yesterday as a spectator and there were a lot of angry fans. There is losing and then there’s the way they lost yesterday. “It’s as poor of a loss as you’ll see. I thought they were outworked by Fremantle and were too tough for (Essendon) and I thought they were outcoached by Justin Longmuir. “Essendon had no answers inside 50 – there nothing other than sitting (the ball) on Peter Wright’s head. “It was damning in every department … Matt Taberner kicks seven and that just about sums it up. Players don’t do that very often so it’s very. very poor.” Essendon will attempt to bounce back when they take on Collingwood in the traditional ANZAC Day clash at a sold out MCG next Monday afternoon.
