Daniel's WB Holden Panel Van Cruise & Chat Part 1
15Hi everyone, it's Phil from Aussie Garage, I’m here with Dan about his WB Holden Panel Van, which is a classic Australian Vehicle that was loved by tradies and Surfers. This is Part 1 about find out more about his pride and Joy.
Dan owned the WB Panel Van for probably five or six years now and was originally bought it as a work bus and things just kind of grew from there. It just became another labour of love another thing in the shed to tinker with.
The WB has a Fuel injected 5lt and 4 speed that he got from a wrecked VS Holden Statesman. So now it’s just and cruise which is awesome for him. Turnkey in the morning, you don't have to worry about warming up all that kind of stuff.
Dan and his family moved over from Canberra to WA about 12 years ago now and are practical locals. However, Dan has also been involved with the Summernats and goes regular when he can. He used to have a shop about ten minutes from the Summernats event in Canberra and Love it for the convenience.
About two years ago or three years ago now, He shipped the WB Holden Panel Van over there and that was the year that had all the bushfire and stuff in Canberra. He the stuck the Panel Van on the train and the plan was to go the Summernats and then on to Parks, where the National Panel Van Championship were on. Then after that, drive the car back to WA with his nephew for the fun of it.
Unfortunately, that was the year COVID hit, so he got to the Summernats and that it. However, he still got to catch up with old mates from the stomping grounds he used to live.
The WB Holden Panel Van sounds like a custom exhaust, but it not, it’s just the standard exhaust from the old 253 engine that was in the vehicle when he purchased it. However, he has placed them to come out the side of the Van instead of the back.
Dan owns and operations Vision Trim Shop, so all the upholstery in the car is top notch, however, he kept it as original as possible looking. At present, he is working on a VY Holden Sandman and decking out the back of the van, which is going to look awesome. Dan has done time lapse videos of the process and will be on his YouTube channel too.
Dan’s next project for himself is a HQ Panel Van that he has owned since he was 18. The HQ had a 350 engine with a Turbo 400 and loved driving this up and down the east coast. Why wouldn’t you, they are the perfect vehicle for travelling. When he starts this project, he is going full out to make it his vision and how he wants it. The car has been off the road for a while, since 2001 exactly, but well looked after.
Dan is part of the West Coast Vanners since they formed and loves it. The went to the Van in in Dongara 2021 for the long weekend and love it. They basically spent three days having a ball and highly recommends to all the members in the club. On the way back from the event through, he nearly lost a wheel because the bearing shattered about, but luckily, no one was hurt.
The next event is the WA Van State Titles at Max Pinjarra that was being held on the 3rd of April 2022 but has been postponed to the 24th of April 2022. Hopefully, some restriction will be lifted by then.
