Danny DeVito Interview: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 17 and 18
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is currently running for its 17th season on FX, marking the sitcom's twentieth year on the air. While comedy icon Danny DeVito wasn't part of the series' first season, when he joined the cast spearheaded by Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, and Kaitlin Olson for Season 2, it marked a drastic shift in the series' overall quality. In the role of Frank Reynolds, DeVito has provided countless laughs, delivering many of the series' most iconic, quotable, and memorable moments that nearly always circulate on the internet as a meme long after the episode has aired.
Season 17 of It's Always Sunny has proven to continue to showcase DeVito providing his best comedy. The second episode, which aired on July 9, was titled "Frank Is in a Coma," in which "Frank ends up in a coma, resulting in Dennis, Mac, and Charlie reevaluating their future and pitching a new business idea, while Dee goes through the five stages of grief." The season will consist of six episodes total, so there are still plenty of laughs to come over the next four weeks on Wednesday nights on FX.
In an interview with Collider's Joe Schmidt, DeVito discussed It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, reflecting on his willingness to do "pretty much anything" for the series and the prank script he was once given that even he felt may have gone too far, and how he enacted the perfect payback. He also gave a timeline for when Season 18 will begin filming and revealed what stage his upcoming project with his Twins co-star is in.
