Darius Twins Playthrough Attempt
Subject: Ah..Darius Twins. Here's a game that was actually apart of my childhood. I might have mentioned that Terranigma was as well but this game I actually played from the actual Super Nintendo. I've always loved this game and the Darius series in general. Only thing is, I'm not good at them nor am I good at shooter/rail shooters. (Shame because those are some of my favorite games.) Back then when I played this game, I was terrible. Could barely get pass the first stage and would always lose all my lives on the second stage. Years later, I'm back here giving it another go and it's safe to say my gaming skills have came along way since then. So I attempt to beat the game.....and let's just say I got pass the second stage that's for sure. I actually got a lot further then I expected to as I made it almost to the end. I make it to the final level and probably got about halfway through it. This video can probably be considered a practice run because I do plan on doing a complete play-through in the near future. The fact that I can almost make it to the final boss does give me hope!
Info: I'll go more into detail on each level once I do a complete playthrough. For the most part, this attempt went quite well up until Planet Horolain. The first two stages (Doesn't matter what route.) are usually not so bad for me. I can usually get pass these levels without losing a life as well as avoid taking hits from the boss. Planet Lankus (Stage 3) I do well on for the most part but it's a pretty tricky stage being that it scrolls in different directions and the enemies like to come from hiding behind the foreground. Usually end up tanking hits from the boss of this level as well do to him being kind of hard to avoid at times but lucky I managed to get through this level without losing a life.
Stage 4 (Either route) is where the downfall of my lives usually begin. It's just quite unfortunate that I died by running into an enemy.(Thankful that this level gives an extra life.) The boss for this level is actually really easy, I'd say almost as easy as the first boss. Stage 5 (Both G and I routes.) I'm not all to confident in my ability to get through these levels without losing a life or even being able to get passed it period. I just happened to be doing really good this run I suppose and managed to get pass it without losing a life. The level itself isn't all to bad actually but I have trouble avoiding the midboss's projectiles as I have trouble predicting where they're going to come out. I also hate the boss for this level "Dark Coronnatus". Usually when I get to him, the midboss has either got rid of my shield or has ended up killing me and there isn't another shield upgrade after that enemy. When that happens, it makes this fight hell and I'd usually lose a few lives by the end of this fight. (Which is way to many.)
As mentioned earlier, Horolain is where things began to fall apart. This planet is actually pretty difficult and is yet another level where the level doesn't just scroll forward. In fact it doesn't scroll straight forward at all and is moving diagonally the whole time. To top it all, even more enemies like to come out from behind the foreground. This level get's really overwhelming and can easily be the end of you lost concentration. I ended up losing three of my lives here but luckily this level also gives an extra life. From there I ended up pulling myself together. As for the famous boss Hyper Greatthing, I was pretty intimidated by this guy at first. In an earlier attempt when I went this route and realized I was going to be fighting him, I thought it would immediately be the end of me. Then I tried him out and realized he's not so bad as long as you know how to position yourself. Aside from the final boss, he spams a whole lot and also has more life then the other bosses so the fight can kind of wear you down if you don't stay on top of your game. Managed to take him down in this run and I was quite happy about that. Planet Daruis...the final level of the game and also the most brutal. This level contains nothing but large enemies (Even that one from the 5th stage that I hate so much.) and I don't even think there are upgrades. I got through a good portion of the level in didn't see any after all.. Ironically, I felt pretty confident up until you know what showed up and destroyed all my lives...kind of a disappointing way to finish the run but this was so far the furthest I've gotten which is almost to the end. (And at least I got to hear my personal favorite track in the game.)
I do feel like I can actually beat the game though with just a bit more practice and finding out how to approach the final level. I have Sin and Punishment: Star Successor to thank for getting me use to shooters Anyways, it was great playing this game again as it brought back a lot of great memories!
