Dark Souls 2 (PS3) Gamechive (Location Guide: All Estus Flask Shards)
"Location Guide: All Estus Flask Shards"—This gamechive contains the location of every Estus Flask Shard that can be found throughout Drangleic. (The locations for SotFS edition have changed and are not detailed here.) Give these items to NPC Emerald Herald near the Far Fire Bonfire in Majula, and she will permanently increase the amount of times you can use the Estus Flask by one, up to a maximum of twelve (12) uses in total. (Shards are pieces that grafted to the singular flask.)
The game contains twelve Estus Flask Shards that can be found throughout the game, and though they can be obtained in any order, they are documented here in the following sequence:
Estus Flask: Majula
NPC Emerald Herald gives the player an Estus Flask upon first meeting her in Majula.
Estus Flask Shard #1: Majula
In Majula, across from the house where the player meets Sweet Shalquoir (the cat), is a well with a tied rock. Hit the rock, and a corpse will rise up that holds it.
Estus Flask Shard #2: Forest of Fallen Giants
After the Last Giant boss is defeated, a player will receive a Soldier's Key. This key is used to unlock some previously locked doors. Take the set of stairs near the Cardinal Tower bonfire, and use the key on the door. Travel into the second room, and the shard is found in a metal chest.
Estus Flask Shard 3: Majula
Once NPC Cale the Cartographer is met in Forest of Fallen Giants, he will give the player a "House Key". This key unlocks the door of the locked house back in Majula. Use the key there, go all the way down to the basement, defeat the single skeleton, and the shard will be found on a corpse.
Estus Flask Shard #4: No-man's Wharf
Located in a metal chest inside one of the stone buildings far below the lever that summons the ship. Inside the house are sleeping soldiers and several poison jars.
Estus Flask Shard #5: The Lost Bastille
Progressing from the Exile Holding Cells Bonfire, and next to the Heide Knight's location, is a ladder which leads down to the next level. Veer to the left, destroy the wooden scaffolding, and follow the narrow path around the wall to find a metal chest with the shard inside.
Estus Flask Shard #6: Earthen Peak
In the poison-filled area where two Mounted Overseers (riders on back) are standing, take the far right path to a room with two Undead Steelworkers (hammer-wielding enemies). Dispatch them, and follow forward, taking the steps downward into the poison-filled water. Follow all the way to the end to find the shard on a corpose against the metal bars.
Estus Flask Shard #7: Shaded Woods
After freeing NPC Rosabeth of Melfia from her petrified state, travel into the next room, and inside one of the small rooms is a metal chest with the shard inside.
Estus Flask Shard #8: Shaded Woods
Unpetrify the Lion Clan Warrior using a Fragrant Branch of Yore, and upon its defeat, the Fang Key will be received. Use this key to unlock the door found in the area that contains the Basilisk enemies and acid pools. The shard is found on a corpose inside the room. (Weaponsmith Ornifex is found here as well.)
Estus Flask Shard #9: Brightstone Cove Tseldora
In the room before the Prowling Magus and Congregation boss fight, is an illusory wall, which leads to a shard-containing corpse leaning out a window.
Estus Flask Shard #10: Brightstone Cove Tseldora
From the Chapel Threshold Bonfire a player will reach an area overlooking the quicksand sinkhole. There is a building with a Hollow White Mage on its roof. Use the zip-line rope to get down to that area, and drop down on the roof. Dropping down further, will find the shard is inside the building on a pile of bones.
Estus Flask Shard #11: Drangleic Castle
While naturally progressing through the castle, the player will come upon an armory room, where the shard is found inside a metal chest. The chest is next to the lever that releases the exit gate, and a path which leads back to the Central Castle Drangleic Bonfire.
Estus Flask Shard #12: Shrine of Amana
After the Crumbled Ruins Bonfire, an Ogre will be encountered. Behind it is a string of pillars which indicates the path to the shard. There are two Amana Shrine Maidens (mages) to contend with along the way. The shard will be found near the end of the path on a corpse.
Note: When using bonfire ascetics or playing the game on NG+ and beyond, additional shards can be re-collected in the same locations as identified above. However, only 12 can be used to increase the Estus Flask to maximum strength.
